| Acupressure (spotty massage) is a presso-reflexive
therapy.
The basic principle is stimulating mechanical centers
by pressing the acupunctural zones. Spotty massage can
be applied individually or as a part of complete (partial)
massage. This method is succesful in many cases and
one of its main characteristics is accessibility.
Many acupressure techniques are recommendable for patients
as a prevention or cure. It is very important to point
out that the acupressure is also useful as first aid.
There are many types of acupressure and many ways of
application. Acupressural spotts are the points of action.
Painful or tender points, burned or damaged skin should
be avoided.
Acupressure is usually performed by using fingertips
of one, two or three fingers, less often using medial
edge of the palm, fingers, whole palm or elbow. We differ
two degrees of stimulation. Weak stimulation is characterised
with short and intensive effect, sufficient for irritation
of skin, subcutaneus tissue or muscles without irradiation.
The frequency of movement is big (3-4) in one second,
prolonged effect on acupressural spott is 30 sec. The
number of stimulated spotts is 6 or more. Strong stimulation
is characterised with gradual growing of strengh, long
lasting and big intensity of pressure, indespensable
for stimulation of skin and subcutaneous tissue till
the bone. The frequency of movement is (1-2) per second.
Prolonged effect on acupressural spott is 1-2 minutes,
number of stimulated spotts is 6 or less. Intensity
and the length of acupressure is modified according
to individual judgement of the patient. When the dosage
is correct we might notice a slight hyperrhemia of the
skin. |
